Every day the object approaches our planet by two million kilometers. This happens mainly due to Earth's own orbital motion, which is currently directed almost exactly toward the point in the sky where 3I/ATLAS is traveling.

As previously reported, 3I/ATLAS and Earth will remain on converging courses for about another month. There is a possibility it will reach minimum distance on December 19, 2025 — approximately 269 million kilometers.

After the official part of the negotiations concluded, the presidents remained in a closed office. Security was removed, and communication systems were switched to maximum protection mode.

Putin: Donald, I have information I can share only with you.

Trump: I'm listening carefully, Vladimir.

Putin: Our special services intercepted an unusual signal. It appears we are not alone in the Universe, and first contact may occur in the coming months.

Trump: This changes everything. Why are you certain?

Putin: Anomalies are observed in the motion of space objects. The coincidence is too precise to be accidental. We have recorded several inexplicable phenomena.

The meeting ended with a handshake, but the agreements remained classified even from their closest advisors. The world continued its ordinary life, unaware of the changes that might soon arrive.

Object 3I/ATLAS confirms Stephen Hawking's prediction about the existence of extraterrestrials

The late genius, Professor Stephen Hawking, is once again in the spotlight of the world community thanks to his warnings about extraterrestrial life. With the appearance of the mysterious object 3I/ATLAS in our Solar System, his grim forecasts about potential contact with aliens sound especially eerie.

Fifteen years ago, Hawking drew a troubling analogy: the arrival of aliens on Earth could turn into a tragedy for humanity comparable to Christopher Columbus's landing in America. Columbus's arrival led to land seizure and extermination of the continent's indigenous population. In Hawking's opinion, a technologically superior extraterrestrial civilization, if it arrives, is unlikely to be more merciful.

But Hawking also had another hypothesis — the so-called "Dark Forest Theory." According to this concept, the Universe is teeming with highly developed civilizations, but they deliberately conceal their existence because any civilization that reveals itself instantly becomes a target for other, more advanced and aggressive predators.

What makes comet 3I/ATLAS unique

The special value of 3I/ATLAS lies in the fact that it has never before passed close enough to a star to heat up, melt, or otherwise change under radiation exposure. This essentially makes it an untouched cosmic artifact billions of years old.

Cryovolcanism on the surface of 3I/ATLAS

After several months of observing the comet, when it reached about 2.5 AU from the Sun, astronomers recorded a sharp and prolonged increase in the object's brightness. It was not a sudden burst like an explosion, but a steady rise in brightness, which scientists interpreted as a powerful eruption of water ice across the comet's entire surface.

Researchers consider cryovolcanism the most likely explanation. While volcanism on Earth is associated with molten lava and fiery eruptions, cryovolcanism works similarly but at opposite temperatures. During cryovolcanism, liquid and vaporous water along with other materials are ejected from the interior of a cosmic body. Astronomers have observed similar phenomena on Jupiter's moon Europa and Saturn's moon Enceladus.

If cryovolcanoes on 3I/ATLAS are confirmed, it would be a unique phenomenon for comets. At the same time, unlike Solar System comets, 3I/ATLAS lacks a protective dusty mantle, making a global eruption across its surface quite possible, astronomers note.

When researchers studied light reflected from the comet's surface, they found it corresponds to a rare type of meteorite — carbonaceous chondrite, rich in nickel and iron.

If this is the composition of 3I/ATLAS, it explains the powerful volcanic activity. Scientists suggest that as the surface heats and ice turns to water, the liquid began corroding small metallic particles inside the comet. This chemical process releases additional energy and gases such as carbon dioxide, sustaining cryovolcanism.

Why I am so eagerly awaiting the flyby of comet 3I/ATLAS as an event of paramount importance.

Some will say there's nothing interesting about it. But I believe for Humanity this is the most interesting event in the last 100 years. For the first time we are observing and studying a comet as an object that could swat our life like a fly with one motion of our hand. Yet we can do nothing about it.

All wars on Earth, some negotiations, changes of presidents lose any meaning as events. Comets and lunar eclipses have always accompanied humanity and are reflected in chronicles. Precise dates of events are established by them. I personally am glad this celestial body did not hit Earth, but is flying past at a decent distance.

December 19 is just a little away. Did I want aliens to arrive, using the comet as a ride to reach the depths of space? Of course not. Humanity is simply not ready for this. One can only dream about it in science fiction.

Space both attracts and terrifies with its unknown. It has always been so, and it will be tomorrow too. Unfortunately, human nature is not inclined toward creation — more toward destruction. Sometimes it seems that only what Created us can stop all this. Even on the brink of self-destruction we unfortunately cannot stop.

Soon New Year, and for all of us a pause appears. In Russia this has always been more than just a holiday. Our Civilization is vulnerable and fragile like glass. No light in the house automatically removes heat and comfort: the elevator, heater, sewage, television don't work, you can't turn on the computer, charge your phone — no generator can compensate for all this. The Stone Age arrives in an individual apartment. And this is happening in the 21st century.

The last 11 years brought nothing but sorrow. Perhaps they will finally straighten our brains. And it will be They, our guests from Space.
