Бородино

For the Russian people Borodino is one of the memorial places of patriotic importance.

One of the greatest battles in the world’s military history occured August 26th (September 7th) 1812, on the vast Borodino field on its hills on the banks of the crossing rivers and streams, and on its groves Borodino is one of the most important events in the history of the Russian military art.

There is a museum to commemorate this battle and close to 30 monuments, constructed in 912, in Shevardino, on the Kolochy river, in the Gorki village, on the Utitsk hill and other places.

In the autumn of 1941, fierce battles with the German Fascists took place on the Borodino field. There are five monuments on the field to commemorate this engagement.
