Annotation to the monograph by E. P. Gurev

The presented monograph is devoted to the military operations in the North of Europe during the Second World War 1941–1945. The study is based on a wide range of sources and literature, including original archival documents. The main attention is paid to the military actions of the German Navy and Air Force against the northern allied convoys from the territory of occupied Norway, the so-called Scandinavian bridgehead. The work covers the reasons for the German occupation and the strategic importance of Norway, Operation «Weseriibung» (the occupation of Norway in the spring of 1940), as well as the actions of the German Air Force and Navy against the northern allied (polar) convoys in the Arctic in 1941–1945. Particular attention is paid to the strategy and tactics of the actions of the German armed forces against the northern allied convoys in 1942–1943 — during the fiercest battles for convoys
