Teen’s Death Ruled Accidental

The Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death of a teenage jogger as an accidental drowning. Three weeks ago, sixteen-year-old Central High School student Mark Conlen was reported missing by his mother after he failed to return home from an afternoon jog along the Schuylkill River Trail. One week later, his body was pulled from the Schuylkill River by the Philadelphia Police Marine Unit after they received multiple reports of a body in the river.

Police believe Conlen fell while jogging, hit his head and fell into the river. The autopsy revealed no evidence of foul play or any underlying health conditions. Although Conlen was out on bail for pending felony charges involving a series of armed robberies in Center City, police do not believe he was targeted or that his death was the result of a homicide. Funeral details will be released later this week.
