Teen Killed in Boating Accident

An eighteen-year-old woman was found dead after her fishing boat capsized in the Potomac River on Monday evening amid choppy waters. Police have identified her as Erin Appleby of Baltimore’s Guilford neighborhood. A spokesman for the Maryland Natural Resources Police says the winds were as high as forty miles an hour that day. “We believe Miss Appleby was making her way back to the dock,” the spokesman said. “But obviously she never got there.” Appleby’s body was pulled from the river after the owner of a power boat passing by spotted her capsized vessel.

Authorities say this is the eighth boating death of the year. Additional details surrounding the accident have not been made available.
