Pedestrian Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver

A nineteen-year-old Gainesville man identified as Joshua Johnson was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while walking on a sidewalk early Friday morning. Police believe the accident happened sometime between 4 and 5 a.m. along Southwest 34th Street near Windmeadows Boulevard. Johnson, who was on probation for a recent burglary conviction, was walking to a nearby diner where he had found employment as a short-order cook. A passing motorist saw his body on the sidewalk and called 911. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to please call police.
