Man Dies after Fall from Balcony

David Hammons, a twenty-year-old Newark man, is dead after falling from his eleventh-floor balcony. Police responded to the scene on Mt. Prospect Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. He lived alone and was alone in his apartment at the time of his fall. Police believe he had gone out to his balcony to smoke a cigarette when he fell to his death.

Hammons had recently been fired from his job at a nearby community center for allegations of child abuse. However, police did not find any indication that he killed himself.

A preliminary investigation has ruled out foul play or mechanical and structural issues as a contributing factor, according to police.
